Women’s Crisis Services in Kitchener-Waterloo is a long standing not-for-profit charitable organization that runs both Haven House and Anselma House in Waterloo Region. Anselma House is a shelter for abused women and children, and earlier this year we had the opportunity to work with Guys and Dolls Spa in Elmira at The Beautiful Me Fashion Show in support of Anselma House. It was a mother-daughter event to help fundraise for the anticipated expansion of Anselma House, with high tea, hors d’oeuvres, a silent auction and door prizes.
Many fabulous, local vendors came together to put on this event, including one of our new favourite wedding and event planners, Lindsay Laur of Destined to Wed. We caught up with Lindsay recently for a postmortem of the event, and she had nothing but great things to say…
“Working with Dierre was great. It was as if we were one mind, I would give a suggestion and then Dierre would either top it or say that’s what I was thinking!
She was also very quick to respond to emails, which is a bonus for an event planner. Nothing worse than having to track down and get answers from a vendor.
I was so thankful to have Never Enough Thyme on board. They were organized, prepared, and ready to help out any way they could. The hors d’oeuvres and desserts were amazing – they looked great and tasted even better. In fact, I even watched as tables who were finished with their servings would get up and take plates from empty tables!
I really cannot say enough about Dierre and Never Enough Thyme, except I can’t wait to work with them again.”
Ah, shucks, thanks Lindsay! We happen to think you’re pretty fabulous, too. Lindsay got involved with the fundraiser through her friend Lori Dronick, so she came on board to help keep us all organized, on task and on time.
When Lindsay joined the effort, many vendors were already confirmed and Lindsay was sort of the liaison between everyone. She also sourced an emcee, music, a stage, linens, flowers and helped bring in donations. Lindsay delegated and helped keep everything organized, which we’re sure was a big part of the success for the day. And a success it was! At the end of the day, we all raised $5,200 for Anselma House! Next year, Lindsay says she’s aiming for $7,000.
In the meantime, though, while Lindsay takes a bit of time off from wedding planning to take care of her new baby, she told us that she’s teamed up with a local woman and the City of Waterloo to start fundraising for a free splash pad in Waterloo.
“We need to raise about $250,000 to get the project started and I can’t wait to start organizing all the great events for it this summer,” says Lindsay. “It’ll definitely be a challenge, especially with babe, but my goal is to have construction started by next summer!”
