If you’re planning on hosting a Christmas get together, chances are you’re starting to plan now since the season usually books up quickly for friends and family. Brunch is one of our favourite meals (it’s breakfast and lunch, who can argue with that?) so we happen to love the idea of doing something non-traditional and hosting a Christmas brunch instead of dinner.

The key to hosting a successful holiday brunch is to fill up your guests with delicious food while still making the theme festive. This means you shouldn’t treat the brunch any different than you would a Christmas dinner. Get out the fancy china and your seasonal tablecloth and serve seasonal goodies that your guests will call home about.

Last year we hosted a Christmas cooking class that was meant for brunch and it featured apple maple bread pudding, carved ham or peameal bacon, maple syrup, fresh fruit in ginger syrup, roasted Yukon gold and sweet potatoes with red onion and yogurt granola parfaits.

And of course, a Christmas get together wouldn’t be the same without some holiday cheer and brunch is no exception (it’s 5 o’clock somewhere!). This cranberry cider is festive and fruity and is sure to pair nicely with whatever brunch menu you decide on.

Cranberry cider

1 cup cider
1 cup cranberry juice
1 bottle of Prosecco or other dry white sparkling wine

Combine the cider and juice in a pitcher, divide among six champagne flutes and top with Prosecco. Garnish with fresh cranberries and serve.
