We of all people understand how valuable time is – it is in our name. And especially when it comes to busy weeknights when you get home late from work and the kids have to be at dance and soccer practice in an hour, plus you have to throw in a load of laundry.

When it comes to the dinner crunch, many people head straight for frozen foods or take out, which may be quick and easy but aren’t always the best quality or nutritious.

Frozen food doesn’t have to be loaded with preservatives or be any less nutritious than fresh food. One time saving trick is to freeze meat once you’ve brought it home from the grocery store, with marinade, so that all you have to do the day you want to cook it is pull it out in the morning and throw it on the grill in the evening once it’s thawed.

The marinade you use could be something as simple as a bottle of barbecue sauce from the grocery store, a simple mixture of Worcestershire and seasonings, or something exotic from a new recipe. We love using chimichurri sauce, which is of Spanish origins and typically made with parsley, garlic, oil, vinegar and red pepper flakes. To spice it up a bit you could also add other flavourings such as paprika, oregano, cumin, thyme, lemon and bay leaf.

And of course, when you’re really short on time, you can always stop by our Food Shoppe at 90 Earl Martin Dr., Unit 4 in Elmira and grab one of our prepared soups, entrées or frozen meals (that are fat, preservative and sugar-free and enough to feed three to four people).
