There’s been a lot of buzz about Hacienda Sarria in the past couple of years; but until recently it was mostly clouded in a shroud of mystery as this highly sought after venue began to make its mark on the wedding and corporate party reception scene.

We had the pleasure of catering for an event at Hacienda earlier this year, and we were quite in awe at its high class beauty. But the Spanish-style venue didn’t start out that way…

In fact, where the building currently stands on Union Street was Canada’s first sugar beet mill in 1902 – a building that contributed immensely to the town’s growth into an urban centre. However, the mill didn’t live up to its projected expectations and closed just 18 years later, in 1920. The building went on to serve as a distillery, a scrap metal yard, and finally as the home of M. Brown Steel Factory, by which time much of the original structure had been destroyed.

Hacienda Sarria began in 2004 after lots of planning, designing and renovating inspired by the century old walk in Northern Spain – the Road to Santiago de Compostela. That’s why this gorgeous venue gives off a European style and an atmosphere that’s reflective of the simple, pastoral life abundant in Spain.

But though much of the architecture and décor are Spanish-inspired, the Hacienda Sarria still has a local feel. In addition to the building itself having a local history, much of the art, ironwork, stone masonry and wooden doors were crafted by local artists. As well, local trades people and vendors helped bring the vision of the Hacienda into reality.

From corporate events to grandiose weddings to intimate birthday parties and charity galas, Hacienda is certainly an elegant and unique venue that can host them all and we look forward to hopefully catering more events here in the future.
