You probably already know that we’re huge advocates of local food and products at Never Enough Thyme – both in our cooking, at the Food Shoppe and in our homes, which is why we love taking road trips to Stemmler’s Meats & Cheese in Heidelberg. With a range of products from many varieties of cheese and meat to in-house specialties, cakes and pastries, it’s never hard to leave Stemmler’s with lots of tasty treats. We love that they source their food locally and smoke the meat in-house, too.
Stemmler’s has been a family-run business since 1985 and it began in the family garage and the local farmer’s market. The original store in Heidelberg was just 1,200 square feet and quickly became known for the unique concept of lean cut, quality meats. The store even showed customers the processing rooms and how the food was being prepared while they waited.
In just five years, Stemmler’s needed more space and expanded into their current 2,300 square foot facility next door to the original space. Over the years, the products at Stemmler’s have won awards, they’ve been used at the Concordia Club’s Oktoberfest festivities, and even at the Molson Indy in Toronto.
Even though Stemmler’s has continued to grow over the years, they’ve never lost their Bavarian-style atmosphere and their promise to quality.
Next time you’re in or near Heidelberg, be sure to stop by Stemmler’s Meats & Cheese at 3031 Lobsinger Line.
